PRODUCTS & MATERIALS 6 Questions
What is a varsity jacket?

A varsity jacket — also called a letterman jacket — is an iconic American outerwear piece originating at Harvard University in the late 1800s. The classic design features:

  • A wool body (warm, structured, durable)
  • Leather or satin sleeves in a contrasting color
  • Ribbed collar, cuffs, and hem in team or school colors
  • A snap-button front closure
  • Chenille patches, embroidery, or lettering on the chest and back

Once reserved for student athletes, varsity jackets are now a global fashion staple embraced by streetwear, luxury fashion, and everyday culture.

What is the difference between a varsity jacket and a letterman jacket?

They are the same garment — just two names for the same iconic jacket. Letterman refers to the tradition of earning a letter through athletic or academic achievement. Varsity refers to the first-string team. Both terms are used interchangeably across the USA and globally.

Quick note: In the UK and Australia, similar jackets are often called “college jackets” — though technically a bomber jacket has a different silhouette without the ribbed collegiate trim.
What materials are your varsity jackets made from?

We use only premium materials in every jacket:

  • 24 oz Melton Wool — Heavyweight, densely woven body fabric. Naturally moisture-resistant, supremely warm, holds its shape wash after wash. The gold standard for over a century.
  • Genuine Cowhide Leather — Full-grain leather sleeves that develop a beautiful patina over time. Tough, supple, and built to outlast trends.
  • Premium Satin — 100% polyester satin that captures team colors with vivid accuracy. Lightweight, bold, and lustrous.

On custom orders, you can mix and match freely. Visit our Jacket Materials Guide for side-by-side comparisons.

Do you offer vegan varsity jackets?

Yes. Our vegan jackets use a Melton Wool body with high-quality vinyl (faux leather) sleeves — designed to look and feel very similar to genuine leather, without any animal products. Easy to clean and highly durable. Simply mention your vegan preference when placing your order.

What areas of the jacket can be customized?

Almost every element can be personalized:

  • Body & sleeve colors — chosen independently from a wide palette
  • Collar, cuff & hem trim — single color, two-stripe, or feathered knit
  • Chest lettering — name, initials, or number in chenille or embroidery
  • Sleeve patches & embroidery — logos, graduation year, sport icons, school name
  • Back design — large chenille patches, custom artwork, mascot, or bold text
  • Pocket trim, lining, buttons/snaps — multiple finish options

No idea is too complex — our team guides you from concept to finished jacket.

What colors are available?

We offer a wide palette across all materials — from classic black, navy, crimson, and white, to bold gold, royal blue, forest green, orange, burgundy, and many more. Body and sleeve colors are selected independently for maximum creative freedom.

Note: Colors may appear slightly different on screen versus the finished jacket due to monitor calibration. Describe your color by name or reference if precision matters.
SIZING & FIT 4 Questions
What sizes do you offer?
  • Adult sizes: XS — S — M — L — XL — 2XL — 3XL — 4XL — 5XL — 6XL
  • TALL: Extra 1.5” (4cm) in sleeve and body length
  • XTALL: Extra 3” (8cm) in sleeve and body length
  • Kids sizes: Available — see our Size Chart for full details

All jackets feature a unisex athletic fit for both men and women.

How do I know what size varsity jacket to order?

Take three measurements with a flexible tape measure:

  • Chest: All the way around at the fullest point, under both arms.
  • Sleeve: Elbow bent at 90°, from back of neck at collar base, over shoulder, down to wrist.
  • Body length: From back of neck straight down the spine to desired hem point.

Cross-reference with our Size Chart. Key tips:

  • Women: Order one size smaller than your usual women’s size.
  • Between sizes? Always size up.
  • Need extra length? Choose TALL or XTALL.
Still unsure? Send us your measurements and we’ll personally recommend the right size.
Do varsity jackets run big or small?

Our jackets run true to size for men in a unisex athletic fit — slightly relaxed through the chest and shoulders, tapered body. Women should order one size smaller than their usual women’s size. For an oversized streetwear look, order one or two sizes up.

Do you offer kids' varsity jackets?

Yes! Kids’ varsity jackets are available in the same premium materials as our adult range. See the Kids section on our Size Chart for sizing. For custom kids’ jackets, contact us with measurements and design preferences.

JACKET CARE 3 Questions
How do I wash and care for my varsity jacket?
  • Melton Wool body: Dry clean only. Brush with a soft suede brush before hanging. Blot spills immediately — never rub. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
  • Genuine Cowhide Leather sleeves: Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Apply leather conditioner every few months. Air dry naturally — never use heat. Never soak in water.
  • Satin jacket: Machine wash on permanent press / delicate with warm water. Tumble dry on low or hang to air dry. Iron inside-out on low if needed.

Visit our Jacket Care page for full step-by-step guides.

How should I store my varsity jacket long-term?
  • Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space away from sunlight and heat.
  • Hang on a wide padded hanger — never fold for long periods.
  • Use a breathable fabric garment bag — never plastic.
  • Place cedar chips or mothballs inside to protect wool from insects.
  • Avoid attics and basements where humidity fluctuates.
How do I remove a stain from my varsity jacket?
  • Wool body: Blot immediately with a clean damp cloth — never rub. Stubborn stains (wine, ink, oil) should go to a professional dry cleaner.
  • Leather sleeves: Blot gently with a dry cloth. Use a small amount of leather cleaner for grease. Avoid soaking with water.
  • Satin: Pre-treat with mild stain remover, then machine wash delicate. Check the stain is gone before drying — heat sets stains permanently.
When in doubt: Take your jacket to a professional dry cleaner experienced in mixed-fabric garments.
STYLE GUIDE 4 Questions
Are varsity jackets still in style in 2025?

Absolutely — more popular than ever in 2025. The biggest trends right now:

  • Oversized fits with dropped shoulders (the streetwear look)
  • Bold color blocking — contrasting body and sleeve combinations
  • Heavy customization — patches, names, graduation years, logos
  • Premium materials — genuine leather and 24 oz wool over mass-produced alternatives
  • Luxury crossovers — fashion houses like Gucci and Dior putting their spin on the silhouette

A well-crafted varsity jacket is one of the few pieces of outerwear that works across every decade of fashion.

How do I style a varsity jacket?
  • Classic casual: Straight-leg jeans, plain white tee, clean white sneakers. Let the jacket be the statement.
  • Streetwear oversized: Size up 1–2 sizes, over a hoodie or crewneck, baggy jeans or cargos, chunky sneakers.
  • Smart casual: Over a fitted rollneck or button-down, slim chinos, leather shoes or clean trainers.
  • Women’s styled: Oversized over a mini skirt or leggings with ankle boots or platform sneakers.
  • Cold weather layered: Over a hoodie or thick knit. The wool body provides excellent insulation.
What season is best for wearing a varsity jacket?
  • Wool & Leather: Best for autumn and winter. The heavyweight wool provides excellent insulation from around 40°F (5°C) upward.
  • Satin: Best for spring and mild autumn days. Lightweight and breathable — great for layering on cooler evenings.

Many customers own both — a wool-and-leather for fall/winter and a satin for the warmer months.

Can women wear varsity jackets?

Absolutely — varsity jackets are unisex and look fantastic on women. The oversized varsity jacket is one of the strongest women’s fashion trends of 2025. Style options:

  • Oversized over leggings or a mini skirt with boots or platform sneakers
  • Belted at the waist over a midi dress for a structured silhouette
  • Open over a fitted turtleneck and high-waisted jeans for a collegiate look
  • With athletic wear for a sporty streetwear aesthetic

For a fitted look, order one size down. For oversized, order your regular or one size up.
